Self-representation and advocacy for the NEETs with mental disabilities from Greece

On the 11th of February, the Greek partner from the SEPAL Project, KOISPE Diadromes, organized a meeting with representatives from the Panhellenic Federations of Social Cooperatives. The experts, presented to the partner’s BoD, how to develop self-representation and implementation of supported employment tools for people with psychosocial problems.

Administration Skills and Social Entrepreneurship

During the meeting, the experts presented a guide about the development of Leadership and Administration Skills in the environment of Social Cooperatives Limited Liability (Koi.S.P.E.). The development of the above skills requires first knowledge of the work and administrative environment.

Thus, in order for a class A member to know his rights according to the development of skills, needs to know the purpose, the wider operating framework and the decision-making bodies. Also, they presented an analysis of Social Entrepreneurship. Social Entrepreneurship is a distinct form of entrepreneurship. The goal is to achieve a social purpose through the creation of social value. It constitutes a separate sector from the competitive economy.

Self-representation

Self-Representation, autonomy and self-determination for people with psychosocial difficulties along with Empowerment and Advocacy are key principles of modern politics for mental health disabled to become active and equal the participation in the society.

Enhancing Self-Representation in conjunction with the development of the Self-Advocacy for people with psychosocial disabilities are mandatory needs in order to be autonomously represented in the various decision-making processes and the issues related to their daily lives. Their rights allow them for further autonomy and self-determination as well as their active participation in the society.

Conclusions

We plan to use those tools for our NEETs with disabilities and introduce them to the concepts of self-representation and advocacy, while supporting their employment. At the same time, we plan to organize a common curriculum among the partnership of SEPAL Pro, about Social Entrepreneurship and give the opportunity to our target groups to be introduced in those important aspects.

Special thanks to the professionals of the PanHellenic Federation of Social Cooperativesfor the presentations and the fruitful discussion. We feel that the post-Covid period has already started and we plan to keep our meetings and seminars face-to-face, in order to interact with our stakeholders and beneficiaries.
