Anna and Joana story

Anna, driver’s license holder

Anna, a young woman with a physical disability from Lithuania, turned to our colleagues from Valakupiai Rehabilitation Center while she was studying at a vocational school. She wanted to receive the support she needed to be able to integrate into society more easily and to have a fulfilling life.

As a first step, in order to increase her mobility, VRC specialists encouraged her to obtain the driver’s license. After finding a driving school, Anna studied the Traffic Code thoroughly and learned to drive a car adapted to her needs. Subsequently, she managed to take the driving exam, which will allow her to move by her own.

Joana, volunteer in a workshop

Joana is a young woman with a mental disability. She graduated from elementary school, and she currently lives in a supported living home. She attends a day center where she sews toys for sale, as well as an art studio. She also benefits from counselling services provided by a psychologist. Currently, Joana volunteers at the Caritas Candle Workshop of the Charity and Support Foundation to help others and engage in community service activities. Thus, she has the opportunity to gain professional experience, self-confidence and to show solidarity in society.

The project “Labour market Employment for young Adults with a Disability – LEAD” is funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Youth Employment.
